Chinese Traditional Children's Painting ( 8 yrs old and above--- Max for 12 students )

This multi-award winning artist will teach the various techniques used in Chinese Traditional Brush Painting. Both beginners and advanced students are welcome. Students will practice drawing a tree, a stone or a mountain until finally a competition worthy picture has been created, using the skills and strategies learned in this class. Many students have been studying with Master Sun for more than 7 years. Some of his students won 1st, 2nd, 3rd or outstanding prizes in Michigan Statewide or US National Youth Art Competions in 2002,2004 or 2006.

Sketch ( Max for 12 students )

This class is designed for children 9 years old and above. The professional art teacher will start with basic techniques in drawing & sketching. After that, based on the students' individual interests, small groups will focus on still-life painting, drawing cartoons and Disney characters, and water color pictures. It is a great opportunity for children to create work to be displayed in the HCAEC's annual Art Gallery at the Troy Library in May.

Chinese Children's Folk Dance ( Max for 12 students )

Math & Science

Math Basics ( 6th grade and above )

This class is for 6th grade students and above. The instructor, with many years of math teaching experience, will teach the basics of Algebra & Geometry. The following will be covered: Linear Equations, Ratio and Proportions, Graphing Linear Equations, Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry, Analytical Geometry, etc. The students will be given an assessment test on the first day of class and then the instructor will teach test taking techniques, as well as demonstrating how to solve math problems with different methods and strategies. This course will strengthen basic math skills, and is a good preparation for taking "Math Competition" course as your next step. An additional charge of $80 for teaching materials will be payable to the instructor at the first class.

Math Competition ( 6th grade and above )

This class is for 6 grade students and above to prepare them for MathCount and AMC 8 level competitions. Students will learn how to solve problems and do practice tests. In order to identify and encourage children in our community who are gifted in math, Mr. Lu and his son David were invited to teach this course. Mr. Lu has many years of math teaching experience in China. David, with help and coaching from his parents, has earned first prizes in both MathCount and AMC 8 level competitions. These two wonderful instructors will lead you in learning the tips and strategies of math competition and coach you step by step to be successful in your MathCount or AMC 8 level of competitions. No books are required for this course. The instructor will provide the test papers in each of the classes.

This class will prepare high school students in taking the SAT Math exam. Students will review math at all grade levels. Basic math skills will be emphasized. SAT/ACT Verbal Reading

How to get high scores for your SAT/ACT Verbal Reading test? For three years, local high schools recommended seniors with full or high scores of SAT/ACT Writing/Reading test to HCAEC, and many teachers even have had at least one year's teaching experience at local Chinese schools. This course is designed to provide the reading skills necessary for the students to master the SAT and ACT tests. In class, the instructor will lead the students to have an intensive practice and verbal reasoning tests as well as sharing with the students some tips and advices on how to conquer the toughest questions on the SAT/ACT Critical Reading tests. For sure, this resourceful 8-week (16 hours) class will be a great resource for improving the students English and critical reading skills.

SAT/ACT Verbal Writing

HCAEC has the resources to give your son or daughter the tools and abilities to conquer the standardized tests and reach new heights in academic growth. With the addition of the new HCAEC English program, students can now learn the other aspect of the SAT/ACT tests to fulfill the aspiring goal of a great score. The 8 week English course with 16 hours of class time is designed for students to later master the questions, both knowledge-based and experience-based, on the English test for a better score. The accomplishments in this class will not only pertain to the SAT, but a lifelong, better use of the English language to acquire other goals as well.

Chinese Bilingual for Beginners

This one-hour class will use a combination of Montessori and traditional Chinese teaching methods.. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children in each class. The students will learn Chinese words through pictures and songs as well as some basic conversational Chinese. It is a great opportunity for American born Chinese children, and those adopted from China to learn the Chinese Language as beginners. The instructor is certified in Chinese Pinyin, Grammar and Teaching Methods by HCAEC. She has been teaching Chinese to her own children and to children in her Church for many years.

HSK---Chinese Language Standards Test ( Test / Resolution )
